Everything it does

Smart downloads

YouTube & SoundCloud search, URL pasting, full playlists, and an artist mode that fetches whole discographies via Deezer.

Spotless tags

Cleaned-up titles, correct albums and track numbers, real 1000×1000 album covers embedded in every file.

Clear library

List or cover-grid view, sort by recently added or most played, instant Ctrl+F search, duplicates finder.

Full player

10-band equalizer, fade between tracks, repeat, shuffle, session resume, media keys (MPRIS).

Synced lyrics

Fetched automatically, highlighted line by line in rhythm, and copied to the player as .lrc files.

Playlists

Play-next queue, reorderable playlists, exported as M3U8 files your DAP can read.

Hidizs sync

Automatic detection, incremental copy, per-artist selection, stale-file cleanup on the card.

Tag editor

Fix artist, title, album, track number: the file is re-tagged, re-filed, and the cover looked up again online.

Two themes, 9 languages

Light or dark neobrutalism; UI in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Russian.

How to install

Installer script Recommended

One command: installs the package and its dependencies (yt-dlp, FFmpeg), creates the menu entry.

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/tashikomaaa/fonotek/main/scripts/install.sh | bash

.deb package Debian / Ubuntu

Full integration: applications menu, icon, uninstall with apt remove fonotek.

wget https://github.com/tashikomaaa/fonotek/releases/latest/download/fonotek_0.2.0_amd64.deb
sudo apt install ./fonotek_0.2.0_amd64.deb

AppImage Any distro

No installation: one file, runs anywhere.

wget https://github.com/tashikomaaa/fonotek/releases/latest/download/Fonotek-0.2.0.AppImage
chmod +x Fonotek-0.2.0.AppImage
./Fonotek-0.2.0.AppImage

Dependencies

Fonotek relies on yt-dlp (+ mutagen) and FFmpeg. The installer script takes care of them; otherwise:

sudo apt install pipx ffmpeg
pipx install yt-dlp
pipx inject yt-dlp mutagen

Built for the Hidizs AP80 Pro-X

And for any player mounted as USB storage. Fonotek downloads m4a/AAC — natively decoded by HiBy OS — with covers that actually show up on the screen.

  1. Plug the player in over USB (Storage mode).
  2. Fonotek detects it and compares it with your library.
  3. Hit “Sync”: only missing files are copied, M3U8 playlists and .lrc lyrics included.
  4. Eject, update the player's music database, listen.
